Why Is My Conveyor Belt Slipping?

Conveyor belt slipping occurs when the belt fails to move at the same speed as the drive pulley, causing a loss of traction. This can lead to reduced efficiency, increased wear, material spillage, and even system failure if not resolved quickly. 1. Insufficient Belt Tension

The most common cause of slipping is low belt tension.

How it happens:

  • Belt has stretched over time
  • Incorrect initial tension setting
  • Take-up system not adjusted properly

Result:

  • Belt loses grip on the drive pulley
  • Slips instead of moving consistently

Fix: Adjust the tension using the take-up system and ensure it is evenly distributed across the belt.

2. Worn or Smooth Drive Pulley

The drive pulley relies on friction to move the belt.
